About the Sheps Center Library
The Sheps Center for Health Services Research Library is located on the first floor. The Library is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed during University holidays.
The Sheps Center Library houses some pertinent reference materials, including basic statistical and demographic reference works; North Carolina, AMA, and AHA guides; directories; and the Sage series on research. A small number of current periodical titles are donated to the Sheps Center Library.
The Library also contains a number of specialized files compiled over the lifetime of the Center, including the Rural/Policy Literature file, which currently holds about 8000 articles. This file holds classic and ephemeral materials pertaining to rural health and health policy. The Rural/Policy File is supplemented constantly with information from newspapers, government documents, state reports, and other sources. There is also the Racial Health Disparities Methods File, which contains over 700 items, and the Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Methods File, which contains over 200 items.
Library services staff is available for personal or group instruction for three bibliographic software packages, ProCite, EndNote, and RefWorks.
HSRProj, a database of on-going health services research, was developed and is maintained at the Sheps Center and distributed through the National Library of Medicine.
Two professional librarians support the activities of the Sheps Center. We are generally available for consultation with or without an appointment.
