Access Policy
The Sheps Center's Library collections consist of the Main Library, Rural/Policy File, and two smaller, restricted files on the second floor: the Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Methods File and the Racial Disparities Methods File. Recent additions can be found on the New Book shelf, near the kitchenette on the first floor.
Borrowing Books:
Books in the reference collection (along the wall adjacent to the stairwell) may not be checked out. Other books in the main collection may be borrowed by Sheps Center employees. Other university users or community members may use our collections in-house, but they may not be borrowed by non-Sheps Center customers.
To check books out, fill out a yellow checkout card with your name, the date you borrow the item, and the title; then place this card where you found the item so that others who want to borrow it can contact you. Materials should be returned within two weeks to the library cart, which is located at the end of the first range of journals. The materials marked with NLM or LC call numbers (a combination of letters and numbers) in the Main Catalog are located on the south end of the first floor, and the files with numerical call numbers are in the Rural/Policy File, located in a file cabinet system on the south end of the third floor.
Journals:
Journals should not be borrowed for any length of time. Please copy the articles you need. A copier is located next to the beginning of the journals collection for your convenience. If you must borrow a journal, please do not take it from the building, and return it the same day to the library cart.
