Variations in the practice of medicine have received national scrutiny because of their considerable social, economic and quality of care implications. The Center collaborates with practicing physicians in North Carolina and across the United States to explore these variations and their implications for health care outcomes. With Research Triangle Institute, the Sheps Center has been designated an Evidence-Based Practice Research Center by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research. Studies focusing on a number of health conditions and clinical procedures are underway.
