Center for Interdisciplinary Health Workforce Studies Webinar

Dr. Erin Fraher discussed possibilities for retooling the existing nursing workforce to meet the demands of the changing healthcare system in a webinar for the Center for Interdisciplinary Health Workforce Studies at Montana State University. Her presentation explored the education, practice, and regulatory frameworks that may be put in place to optimize nursing contributions to these emerging models of care delivery.

Fraher urged the audience to consider the question: Will we have the right mix of nurses in the right locations, specialties and practice setting with the skills and competencies needed to meet the demands of a transformed health care system? “To date, most workforce policy focus has been on redesigning the educational curriculum for students in the pipeline, but it is the 2.9 million nurses already in the system who will transform care,” Fraher said.
