Workforce Data and Tools Presented to NCIOM Legislative Fellows
The NCIOM Legislative Fellows program brings together legislators from the NC Senate and NC House to dig deep into health data and information needed for evidence-based policy making. The Program’s work was highlighted in a January meeting about health workforce challenges and policy solutions to address nursing, primary care, behavioral health and other shortfalls. We also leveraged our data and projection models to develop custom fact sheets on the status of the health workforce in each legislator’s district.
Program Co-director, Erin Fraher PhD, MPP presented to the NCIOM Legislative Fellows highlighting challenges in recruiting, retaining and sustaining a health workforce to meet North Carolina’s health care needs. Dr. Fraher’s presentation centered on how the Program on Health Workforce & Policy’s data can be used to:
1️⃣ identify health professions, settings and geographic areas of the state facing health workforce challenges
2️⃣ inform policy solutions and evaluate the ROI of legislative investments in the health workforce
