State Rural Hospital and Community COVID-19 Vulnerability

This chart shows the Average COVID-19 Community Vulnerability Index (CCVI) and the Median Operating Margin for Rural Hospitals. A higher CCVI represents greater community vulnerability to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each circle represents a state. Hover over circles for more information on each state’s vulnerability. Larger circles represent states with more rural hospitals. For this analysis, rural hospital data was aggregated to the state level. CCVI was created by the Surgo Foundation to build off of the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index. Operating Margin data was collected and analyzed by the NC RHRP using Medicare Cost Report data.
